You've got your flowers, great! Now how do you keep them alive?

How to Make Your Fresh Flowers Last Longer

 Vase Edition

Care Tips from Stems Miami

When you receive a floral arrangement from Stems Miami, it’s already artfully styled in a vase and designed to impress. But with just a little extra care, you can make your blooms last even longer—so the beauty lingers well beyond the first day.

1. Change the Water Every 1–2 Days

Even though your flowers arrive in clean, fresh water, it’s important to change it regularly. Gently tilt the vase to pour out the old water, then refill it with clean, room-temperature water. This helps prevent bacteria buildup and keeps your flowers hydrated and healthy.

2. Keep Your Flowers Cool & Out of Direct Sunlight

Fresh flowers thrive in cooler conditions. Place your arrangement in a cool room, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air conditioning vents. This helps slow down the natural wilting process and keeps the colors vibrant.

3. Trim the Stems Every Few Days

Every 2–3 days, give the stems a fresh cut—about half an inch, at a diagonal angle. This allows them to absorb water more efficiently and helps extend the life of your blooms.

4. Remove Any Fading Flowers

As certain blooms begin to wilt, remove them from the arrangement. This not only keeps the overall look fresh but also prevents the spread of bacteria to healthy flowers.

5. Keep Away from Ripening Fruit

Fruit emits a natural gas called ethylene, which can cause flowers to age faster. To extend the lifespan of your arrangement, avoid placing it near fruit bowls or other ethylene-producing produce.
